For 8th graders and their parents, there was a wonderful opportunity to understand the
issues that go on every day in our schools and in life. The movie, Shout It Out, was shown, On April 3rd,
which was put together by Vermont teens with the hope to bring awareness to teen issues.
WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 65-70 PEOPLE ATTEND THIS EVE WITH GREAT DISCUSSIONS BETWEEN TEENS & ADULTS!! THANKS TO ALL WHO ATTENDED!!
If you are an 8th grade parent who didn't attend and you want to borrow the movie..contact Caryn Olivetti,

Reflections on John Halligan’s Presentation
from Peer Leadership Students
On March 31st, 2008 Mr. John Halligan came to talk to FHTMS about the effects of bullying. His family lost their son after many years of his being bullied and dealing with depression. His speech was so powerful and touched many people! Some of our friends who watched the presentation realized how their actions affected other people. Most of us became more conscious about what we were saying and doing. We are very glad he came and his story will never be forgotten.
When John Halligan visited us, he gave a speech on bullying, and made an impact on many students and parents. He talked about the loss of his son, Ryan, and the impact bullying had on his life. It was “a heartbreaking experience” and “moved” many people in the audience. Some of the comments we heard were: “His presentation was life altering.” “He changed my outlook on bullying, life and how I react to people.” “Your story changed my prospective.” Here is one student’s perspective on the presentation: “ I think that the story was much more powerful having him tell the story, than having someone else who hadn’t experienced bullying as such a terrible experience. He changed my outlook on life and I think that he touched more than just my heart.”
A Tragic Story
John Halligan came to FHTMS on March 31 2008. We were very fortunate to have such a great speaker to tell his tragic story. Within his very close family they experienced a major bullying tragedy. John’s son, Ryan was only 13 years old when he committed suicide on October 7th, 2003. Ryan suffered from depression and was bullied at school and online. In the fifth grade is when all the bullying started. They would bully him about his academic weaknesses and many other things. In 6th grade the bullying was on and off, so his parents weren’t too concerned. When he was in 7th grade though the bullying worsened! Surely enough, the kids that had bullied Ryan in 5th grade were the main bullies in middle school too. With all this bullying going on, Ryan finally couldn’t handle it and tragically took his life! Many of the students around the world don’t realize how much bullying can impact others lives. After, John comes to speak with our school we are all hoping that it will bring a new understanding about what the affects of bullying can be. It made a difference to us. Please take everything that John Halligan said seriously. It could be you in the shoes of a kid that is being bullied one day, so help stop it now.

Cyberbullying
Some Peer Leadership members went to the World of Difference Conference on November 6th at the Capital Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Montpelier. Read more about it in the bullying page!
This wiki is a nice and high-energy place to let your feelings out or just have a good time and learn more about Peer Leadership.
Thank you so much,
Peer Leadership

If any Tuttle student would like to put something on our Peer Leadership Wiki:
Please either send it to a Peer Leadership student (and they will put it on) or email it to Caryn Olivetti at colivetti@sbschools.net.
You can send it in the summer too! You can contribute an idea of a fun activity, poem, picture, book review or any other information that you think other kids would want to see. You can include your name on the wiki or not. Thanks!

Not sure everybody wants their names showing on it. We can ask at our meeting on Tuesday. We can also talk on this comment part and then people can have their names show if they want. I am having a good Thanksgiving and hope you are too!

Haley,
I think your advice column is GREAT!
Can you either put it on the home page or give directions and on how to get to the info from the home page (and what it is about). It won't be seen without it being more visible!
What do you think? Thanks! Ms.O

The recent activities can only be viewed by Peer Leadership, so others don't even see it.
Anyone interested....Add info about how to deal with kids being mean to each other....Our main focus now...
